“Thousands of children in South Florida begin each school year without the necessary supplies, clothes and shoes to help them achieve academic success. But this year, together as a community, we can all make a big difference in the life of a child entering the new school year,”commented Ms. Sandra Bernard-Bastien, Director of the CSC’s Public Affairs and Organizational Development department.”Working in partnership with the School Board of Broward County’s social workers, who are identifying the children and will help in the distribution, the community wide effort includes more than a dozen other organizational supporters, including BankAtlantic, Neighbors 4 Neighbors, Gunther Kia, Save a Sole, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Rick Shaw’s Majic 102.7 Children’s Fund, 211 Broward, Volunteer Broward, Carlyn Uniforms, Frostie Flavors, Panera Bread, and you!”
How can you help?It’s easy.You can help a child this new school year by buying and dropping off supplies, by donating money to the Broward Education Foundation, by volunteering to ensure that 2000 backpacks are packed, and/or by participating in one of the advertised events listed on the 211 Broward community calendar. Needed supplies include: notebook paper, pens, pencils, composition books, glue sticks, flash drives, coloring pencils, erasers, spiral notebooks, 5 pronged folders, rulers, crayons, school scissors, highlighters, colored markers, zippered pencil bags, calculators.Drop off points for school supply donations, which are currently scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, include:

Cash, checks, and even “spare change” donations can be made as well.BankAtlantic will accept monetary donations at all of their branches and deposit them in the CBS4 Neighbors for Neighbors “Back to School Fund.”Alternatively, a check made payable to the Broward Education Foundation can be mailed to the Broward Back to School Community Extravaganza, c/o the Children Services Council of Broward County, 6600 W Commercial Blvd, Lauderhill, FL 33319.
There is one more way to help a student and also have some fun too!Join us at the Broward’s Back to School Community Extravaganza “Drive Thru Rally.”You can donate school supplies, make a donation, or drop off a check payable to the Broward Education Foundation.The Drive Thru Rally will take place on August 6, 2011, from 9:00 am through 3:00 pm, at the Children’s Services Council of Broward County offices, located at 6600 West Commercial Blvd in Lauderhill.Every donor can enjoy giveaways at the Drive Thru Rally from Panera Bread, Gunther Kia, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Frosty Flavors, and more.Plus, everyone bringing school supply donations will have an opportunity to win great raffle prizes.
