The top-ranked girls soccer teams in Class 4A and 3A have plenty in common – things going smoothly so far, but soon to be tested.
Kentwood remains atop 4A with an unbeaten record at 5-0-0 and two more wins last week. Southridge of Kennewick of stayed at No. 1 in 3A by upping its record to a perfect 7-0-0 last week.
Both have big test looming on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The Conquerors face off with No. 2 Tahoma (5-0-0) in South Puget Sound League (SPSL) North Division action on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the Bears’ pitch. It is a rematch of last year’s 4A title match, won 1-0 by Kentwood in shootout.
Kentwood must get past Kent-Meridian on Tuesday and Auburn Thursday to remain perfect. Tahoma needs wins over Kentlake on Tuesday and at Jefferson on Thursday to set up the battle of unbeatens.
Southridge could be putting its unbeaten and No. 1 spot on the line Saturday at 2 p.m. at home against No. 9 Kamiakin (5-2-0).
The No. 1 Suns play Eastmont at home on Tuesday. Kamiakin, whose only losses are to 4A schools Gonzaga Prep and Moses Lake, hosts Hanford on Tuesday.
In the 4A rankings, nothing changed through the top five spots as after Kentwood and Tahoma came Lewis & Clark of Spokane at No. 3, Skyline of Sammamish at No. 4 and Bellarmine Prep of Tacoma at No. 5. Beamer moved up from No. 7 to No. 6 as Mead switched spots after its first loss of the season.
The best team not ranked in 4A could be Lake Stevens, who is 6-0-0.
Perhaps the most dominant team in the 4A rankings is Beamer, which has outscored opponents 22-1 in six wins.
After the first three teams in 3A – Southridge, Bonney Lake and Seattle Prep – there was considerable movement in the final seven spots of the rankings this week.
Everett (5-0-1) vaulted from No. 7 to No. 4 by staying unbeaten and posting a 2-1 overtime win over Glacier Peak, which moved from No. 6 to No. 7 this week.
Hanford fell from No. 5 to out of the 3A rankings after a pair of losses and fellow Columbia Basin Big Nine Athletic Conference (CBBN), Kamiakin made its top 10 debut at No. 9.
Prairie (5-1-1), of Brush Prairie near Vancouver, moved from No. 8 to No. 6 with a steady week.
